Narongyot Thongyoo

Artist Story
Born in Songkla and now living in Chiangmai, the artist had his first solo exhibition in 2012 at a tender age of 30. Despite his success, the artist chooses to live a carefree and simple life. Looking at his works could remind one of the hanging baby room mobile, with each distinctive piece casting a plethora of every changing but recognisable shadows of the subject. Every slight movement of the wire portrait brings subtle changes to the subject’s features thus delivering range of highly emotive and compelling moods and expressions.

But there is more.

With a keen eye and innovative use of these mobile wire portraits, he creates modern portraits of his subjects using the wire shadows like a kind of matrix. Although the paintings are now reduced to a two dimensional representation of their subjects, they are no less impactful. The dark and almost monochromatic tones of the portraits give each of the painting a bold and arresting effect.
