A Bodhisattva is an enlightened existence or an enlightenment-being. Traditionally, a Bodhisattva is anyone who, motivated by great compassion, has a spontaneous wish to attain Buddha hood. This standing Bodhisattva is modelled after the Guanyins of the Tang Dynasty period – a golden age of Chinese arts with intricate and opulent style of design and ornamentation.
This artwork is made of a very heavy and dense wood. High density woods are more difficult to carve than soft wood. This exquisite artwork speaks volume of the skills of the master craftsman.
